The Bahau Chinese Chess Association was founded in 1989 by 林诗顺, 谢观生, and 廖冰麟. They jointly initiated and organized the association, and on September 15, 1990, they officially obtained registration approval from the authorities. During its initial establishment, the main activities of the association were selecting representative teams and participating in friendly matches with chess teams from other regions, providing members with opportunities to showcase their talents and exchange knowledge.

In 1997, the Bahau Chinese Chess Association welcomed a new leadership, injecting fresh energy into the organization. They rented a venue, installed air conditioning, and set up a library. The association began to regularly organize various chess tournaments, lectures, and other healthy activities, providing members with better learning and competitive platforms.

Over the nearly ten years since its establishment, the Bahau Chinese Chess Association has not only been committed to promoting the sport of Chinese chess but has also hosted a series of significant events. These include the 1992 exhibition match where Chinese chess master 胡荣华 played against five opponents simultaneously and the 1997 event where Chinese super grandmaster 柳大华 played against ten opponents at once. These exciting competitions not only delighted chess enthusiasts, broadened their horizons, and enriched cultural life, but also fostered friendship between the people of China and Malaysia.

The Bahau Chinese Chess Association is not only the earliest registered chess organization in the state of Negeri Sembilan but its club facilities are also exceptionally rare among chess clubs in Malaysia, fully demonstrating the enthusiasm of the people of Bahau in supporting chess activities. Since 2011, 锺明甫 has been serving as the chairman of the Bahau Chinese Chess Association.

History of the Bahau Chinese Chess Association

It's worth mentioning that in 2020, the association relocated its club from Bahau Street to the second floor of a new store in the Mahogany Commercial Area near Bahau-Tampin junction. This new venue provides members with a better environment and conditions, continuing to promote the development of Chinese chess.

In its 34-year history, the Bahau Chinese Chess Association has not only provided a platform for local chess enthusiasts to exchange ideas and compete but has also nurtured a group of outstanding chess players. Through organizing various competitions and events, it has contributed to the popularization and development of Chinese chess in the region. In the future, the Bahau Chinese Chess Association will continue to promote Chinese chess and provide its members with more exciting events and learning opportunities, making even greater contributions to the friendship between the people of China and Malaysia.
