There were not as many outstanding table tennis players from Bahau Chi Wen School Alumni compare to other alumni of Negeri Sembilan, such as Rantau Chung Hua Alumni Association and Machinery Trade Union, N. Sembilan. However, the efforts to promote table tennis outplayed those in other parts of the state, with the two initiatives below:

Table tennis creates state players

Enthusiastic alumni in Bahau Chi Wen Alumni Association, Bahau Sports Association, Bahau Table Tennis Association, Ayer Hitam Youth Association, etc. had organized many large-scale table tennis tournaments in Bahau. They had organized “The 2nd Wong Chao En Table Tennis Tournament N. Sembilan”. They also repeatedly organized “Table Tennis Invitation Tournament Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, Pahang and Johore” and “Open Tournament N. Sembilan, Johore and Pahang” etc. When Yau Jin Zian was the chairman of Chi Wen School Alumni, together with Ayer Hitam Youth Association, he invited Malaysia national players to tour around in Bahau to promote the game of table tennis.

Lim Hui Ming, who was born and grew up in Bahau represented the Pahang state team in the National Civil Servant Table Tennis Competition. He partnered with national players Yang Wu Long and Chen Shi Zhen to win the team championship.

Deng Chun ming (Deng Gou zai) and Yap Qing He represented Negeri sembilan to participate in the National Table Tennis Junior Championship. In 1969, Yap Qing He lost in the second round to Zheng Dong qi of Johor, who later dominated in national table tennis championship for many years. In the 7th National Table Tennis Championships held in Ipoh in 1970, Yap Qing He lost to Chen Qiong Zhang of Kuala Lumpur in the rematch and missed out on the championship again. Chen was the runner-up of the year. Nevertheless, in the same year, Yap Qing He and Deng Chun Ming represented Negeri Sembilan in doubles and at that time, they won the championship in National Junior Table Tennis Tournament.

Chua Tet Hock not only promoted basketball in Bahau, but also enthusiastically promoted table tennis. He served as the vice president of the National Table Tennis Association and the president of the Negeri Sembilan State Table Tennis Association.

Tian Mu Yao, another table tennis player, was appointed as the team leader. Together with Chua Tet Hock, they led the national table tennis team to North Korea to participate in the Asia-Africa Table Tennis Invitational Tournament and the World Table Tennis Championships.

In 1970, the table tennis players of the Sports Association, from left, Cai Deyuan, Chen Bao, Deng Chunming (nicknamed Deng Gouzai), Tian Muyao, Ye Qinghe and Chen Qingsheng

Between the late 60’s and mid 70’s, Those who were active in table tennis included Li Shi Lu, Xie Bai Song, Chen Tan Lin, Zhang Hui Huang, Huang Wei Cheng, and later Lim Hui Ming, Yap Qing He, Chai De Yuan, Wong Mu Fa, Wong Shui De, Zhou Ai Qing, Liang Sai, Hu Zhi Liang, Deng Chun Ming (nicknamed Deng Gou Zai), Chen Qing Sheng, Chan Bao and etc. They represented N. Chua Tet Hock was always grateful to Wen Ya Fa, late Chen Li Xiao and Liao Bing Lin for their assistance in promoting the table tennis in Bahau. At that time. the table tennis athletes often took buses or taxis from Bahau to Seremban for training, which was very inconvenient. However, for the sake of passion, the athletes attended the trainings regardless inconvenience. Their hard work, determination and team spirit had brought them good results, which had become another honor for the Bahau people.
