Section 31: Chi Wen Athletics
Chi Wen Athletics: Not only renowned in Bahau and Jempol County but also famous throughout the entire state of Negeri Sembilan. Chi Wen has clinched the overall champion title in the Jempol County Athletics Union for more than ten consecutive seasons and has assisted the Jempol County Sports Union Athletics Team in winning the overall champion title for more than ten consecutive seasons in the Negeri Sembilan state competition. Chi Wen Athletics faced ongoing challenges with their training facilities. Still, with the support of the school administration, Teacher Teh Eng Eiau skillfully utilized the roads behind Chi Wen, sidewalks, classroom corridors, the Five-Feet Way, the school auditorium, Bahau's large grass field, and the lakeside park at Bahau Lake as training grounds. These places have nurtured outstanding athletes on the grass fields for Chi Wen.
Chi Wen Athletics – a name that strikes fear into the hearts of all Negeri Sembilan athletes. Despite not having a single grass field, how did our students manage to win those dazzling trophies? Chi Wen Primary and Secondary Schools, both lacking a grass field, but Chi Wen's athletes are undefeated on the sports field. Chi Wen has created a myth, endured a difficult journey, and perhaps one day, Chi Wen will become an enduring legend.
Mr. Teh Eng Eiau was born into an academically inclined family and had 10 siblings. Since June 1973, he has been dedicated to the field of education, serving for decades. As a senior track and field coach, he has nurtured numerous outstanding athletes for schools, Jempol County, and the entire state. His contributions continue to this day and have been significant for athletics.
Chi Wen can be considered fortunate to have been blessed with a mentor like Mr. Teh Eng Eiau. He has extremely high expectations for his athletes. The athletes he trains are carefully selected, and they can be called the elite among elites. He demands discipline, perseverance, and the courage to face challenges and persist in training from his athletes. For some exceptionally performing athletes, he even provides rewards out of his own pocket, hoping they will continue to strive for excellence with an attitude of "aiming for higher goals."
Chi Wen Secondary School and Chi Wen Primary School's athletics programs complement each other. Starting from the third grade, Teacher Teh and other athletics teachers launched a series of 'recruitment' actions. They sought students with potential in each class and conducted screenings. These students had to pass tests in various technical sports and be selected as the most outstanding and potential students through Teacher Teh's discerning eye. Next came continuous grueling training until they entered secondary school.
The accumulation of years of training provided rich experience, sports skills, and fundamentals that enabled these athletes to face their opponents with ease, exerting invisible pressure.
However, whenthey occasionally encountered technically superior opponents, they felt intimidated. At such times, Teacher Teh would always offer encouragement and comfort in the background, but ultimately, they had to rely on their own efforts to overcome psychological barriers. Striving for excellence, scaling the pinnacle, and achieving remarkable results. For many years, Chi Wen Secondary School has dominated almost all types of athletics competitions. Whether it was school-level competitions, inter-state events, or national athletics competitions, Chi Wen Secondary School's athletics team's performance was highly regarded, like a bright pearl.
They were the cream of the crop in the field of athletics. Additionally, many outstanding in-house athletics athletes were selected to receive further training at the Bukit Jalil Sports School, adding luster to Chi Wen Secondary School. The athletics kingdom at Chi Wen Secondary School was diligently built by Teacher Teh Eng Eiau, who was also the mentor of many former athletics athletes.
In recognition of Teacher Teh's contributions to Chi Wen Primary School's athletics, a group of alumni who graduated in 1980 donated funds to build a rain sheltered corridor on Teacher Teh's retirement day, naming it the Teh Eng Eiau Athletics Corridor. In addition to the corridor, these alumni donated over RM26,000 to Chi Wen Primary School's Parent-Teacher Association in 2015 as a fund for the development of school athletics. Furthermore, in 2018, Liao Yaowei(廖耀伟), a graduate from 1998, also donated RM10,000 to establish an Athlete Welfare Fund."
