Section 62: Bahau Fo Guang Shan
Buddhism in the Human Realm in Malaysia: Master Hsing Yun's Seeds Introduction to Bahau Fo Guang Shan
The Bahau Fo Guang Shan is located in the hilly town of Bahau in the central region of Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia. The center is situated in the , Bahau Siong Kong Association Building.
The establishment of this center traces back to the year 1996 when Master Hsing Yun visited Malaysia and held a Dharma assembly at the Shah Alam Indoor Stadium. Eighty thousand people attended the lecture. During this event, a group of enthusiastic young individuals from Bahau came into contact with Fo Guang Shan(佛光山) and the International Fo Guang Buddhist Hui(国际佛光会). They resonated with the concept of Humanistic Buddhism advocated by Fo Guang Shan and consequently identified it as the spiritual group they wished to belong to. This led to the formation of the International Fo Guang Buddhist Hui Bahau Branch in 1999, followed by the establishment of the Bahau Fo Guang Shan in 2001. The center is equipped with facilities such as a Buddha Hall, library, classrooms, reception hall, offices, and dormitories.
At that time, the followers of the Bahau Fo Guang Shan were predominantly young, which allowed them to organize activities with great enthusiasm, diversity, and creativity. The center often collaborates with local organizations, communities, and schools to host various educational and cultural events of different scales. These include acts of kindness, the mobile Yunshui Bookstore(云水书坊), water blessings, basketball training classes, youth paradise, children's classes, and meditation sessions. Through authentic Buddhist education, the center aims to cultivate a culture of learning Buddhism among the local population, promoting purification of the mind and fostering social harmony.
