Section 39: SJKC Chung Hua Air Hitam
School Background SJKC CHUNG HUA AIR HITAM
SJKC LADANG GLENDALE was built in 1921 by the Glendale Estate Manager as per request of the Chinese who worked as rubber tappers on the estate. The estate once ceased operations for several years and reopened after the Second World War. On 17th August 1948, the school was registered under section 7, Registration of School Enactment [Cap: 159] as Chung Hua School at the address of Glendale Estate, Ayer Hitam, Bahau.
On August 30, 1966, the school was re-registered as S.R.J.K. (China) Glendale Estate, Ayer Hitam, Bahau, Negeri Sembilan under the Education Act 1961. At that time, the number of students in this school was 158 students and the number of classrooms used was only four.
From 1966 to the 90s, the number of students in this school ranged from 160 to 300 students. However, starting from the 90s, student enrollment in this schools began to decline. This situation is due to socio-economic changes where many Chinese workers had moved elsewhere to work in other sectors. In addition, the management of Glendale estate, the employer, had hired foreign workers to replace the Chinese workers.
Therefore, the School Management Board and the PTA had decided to work together to apply for the relocation of the school to Kampung Baru Cina Air Hitam which is located about 8 km from Glendale estate. The purpose of that is to make it easier for the students living in the Kampung Baru Cina Air Hitam area to receive education at this school. On 24th February 1996, the school officially relocated to Kampung Baru Cina Air Hitam. The new school has three buildings and can accommodate many students.
On 24th May 1996, the new school building was inaugurated by the Honorable Dr. Chong Fong Onn, Deputy Minister of Education. On the 13th March 2018, the school renamed its name to SJKC CHUNG HUA AIR HITAM.
